Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his gratitude for “support for Tehran” in the Kashmir issue. The Hindu newspaper The Hindu reported this in a report yesterday.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office says the Prime Minister of Iran on Sunday discussed the situation in Kashmir with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. New Delhi on August 3, repealed Article 5 of the Constitution and abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, India’s territorial tension with Pakistan over the Kashmir issue has been ongoing. Imran Khan discussed this with Rohani amid ongoing tensions.
Tehran tourist Imran Khan had a meeting with Rouhani yesterday. Imran Khan met Rouhani at the president’s palace to help ease tensions between regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia. He also met Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement that Imran Khan had discussed the situation in Kashmir with Rouhani. He expressed his gratitude for “Iran support” in the Kashmir issue. However, there was no comment from Iran on the matter.
Pakistan has sought to internationalize the Kashmir issue after India withdrew its special status to Jammu and Kashmir. But New Delhi has asserted that the cancellation of Kashmir’s special status is their ‘internal matter’. They have asked Islamabad to accept this fact.
India has clearly stated that there is no opportunity for third party mediation in the Kashmir issue.
Prime Minister Imran Khan visited Iran for the second time this year. He held a bilateral meeting with the Iranian president following the 9th session of the UN General Assembly in New York in September. Speaking of his visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
